At the dawn on Dec. 20th, 1943, the seven-teen years old Isacco Bayona, scattered at Gabbro, was arrested by Carabinieri because he was a Jew. Together with him, they also arrested his mother, little sisters, brother and the families Modiano and Baruch. A total of 17 people were deported to Auschwitz. Isacco, serial number 173404, was the only one of the group that was able to come back. «When you think about the Holocaust», he often repeated, «remember about us, the Jews, but remember also about the victims of political persecution, the gypsies, and every kind of oppressed people”.
